CALM awareness campaigns to sensitise communities about the dangers of COVID19 and to ensure that everyone adheres to the 21 Days Lockdown regulations. Ensuring social distancing was practiced at pay points for social grants and also distributed pamphlets on the COVID-19.
On 23 January 2020, Gert Sibande District Municipality delivered according to its commitment to support local municipalities deliver excellent services and development. Two tipper trucks were handed over to the first two municipalities to benefit from this municipal support initiative from the District. In the recent previous financial years, the District supported Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Municipality with a low bed. The District aims to support all other Municipalities in a similar manner in line with their respective needs and in line with the municipal budgetary plans.
Clubs in Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality benefitted today with sporting equipment donated by the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation in partnership with Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality. The clubs the were beneficials to the donations are : *Vutha Netball from Carolina Unit, *Barcelona Football Club from Mpuluzi Unit, *Ekulindeni Rugby from Ekulindeni Unit, *Power Boxing from Elukwatini Unit and *Wolves Junior Basketball from Carolina Unit.
Ordinary Meeting of the Municipal Council (01/2020), held at Carolina Town Hall, 28 Kerk Street. Cheif Albert Luthuli Municipality's, Ordinary Council meeting is currently underway at Carolina Town Hall. The community members are allowed to come and listen councillors debate different issues.
The first Mayoral Committee meeting in 2020 was called today, 21 January 2020 at Carolina. Whereby Rocla's in their Thuthukisa initiative they promote that Communities should become manufacturers in their own right. This has been done through the twin leach pit toilet programme, in which its sanitation technology consisting of two alternating pits connected to a pour flush toilet. The blackwater (and in some cases greywater) is collected in the pits and allowed to slowly infiltrate into the surrounding soil.
We are extremely excited to announce that our schools, learners and the best circuit have received awards and prizes, for their achievements as the class of 2019. We wish our learners all the best with their future endeavors. We also thank our sponsors for their assistance throughout the year and their pledge to support the Municipality and it's learners. We are so proud of our Class of 2019.
The Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality, Executive Mayor Cllr. DP Nkosi led the Back to School campaign with TROIKA and Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality councilors around the municipal wards. Cllr DP Nkosi encouraged and motivated the learners to start studying from the onset so that they can boost the schools pass rate. He further condemned the violence and drug usage in our schools. The Executive Mayor visited Siyabonga Secondary School in ward 11 and the ward Cllr. was present, cllr. Nkosi TS, wished the learners, teachers and the governing body well on their first day back at school. The Circuit manager Mr.Sibeko also welcomed the learners and teachers. Further, informed the school body of the acting Principal Mr Mndebele who has been the deputy principal at the school.
As part of the back to school campaign the Deputy Minister of Tourism Hon. Fish Mahlalela visited Mlondozi Primary School. His entourage consisted of the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality councilors, Municipal officials with Minister's, and the Department of Education. The aim of the visit was to wish and encourage the learners well as they begin their academic year for 2020.
